The show is called the Great Edmonton Train Show, "GETS" to its friends. It runs for two days using both halls at the Mayfield Inn Trade Center, in Edmonton, Alberta. On the Saturday evening there is a supper and social for show participants held in a tent in historic Fort Edmonton Park. This includes announcement of awards based on visitor votes, and draws of items donated by various individuals, groups and hobby stores. NALUG members have been known to buy lots of draw tickets. We also contribute a train-related LEGO set to the draws.

The model railroad layout next to us this year was LabaJa, a local group. They recently competed in a show in California, and have proved themselves a world class model railroad. They use a system of magnetic wires and small powered vehicles to have stuff driving around on some of the roads. NALUG tried something like that a few years back, using LEGO magnets and a big chain-link belt, but it wasn't very reliable.
